What is a Domain name?
The most suitable explanation of a domain name would be “the name of your website”. But there is so much more to a Domain Name than just that.
The Domain Name System also known as DNS has been invented in the year 1980. Its sole purpose is to connect local area networks and their contents to the Internet. The Domain names can be divided into Top Level Domains (TLD) which consists of generic TLDs such as the .COM, .NET, .ORG which were the first TLD's released, and the Country Code Top Level Domains such as .UK (United Kingdom), .US (United Stated), .DE (Germany), .EU (European Union) and so on and so forth. In other words every domain name ends on a Top Level Domain (TLD). Underneath the TLD, comes second and third level domain names which are open to public registrations.
Top Level Domain Names
Top Level Domain Names are the highest level in the hierarchy of the Domain Name System. Those also form the DNS root system.
The First TLD's were the .COM, .NET and .ORG and they were released in the year 1985 as well as some country code TLDs. In the years to come the Domain name registrations grew and so did the TLD's. Up until now (2009) there are 20 generic Top Level Domains and 248 countrdy code TLD's. The latter are formed on the country abreviations such as: .TV for Tuvalu, .ME for Montenegro, .JP for Japan and so on.
Country Code Top Level Domains
A country code top-level domain also known as ccTLD is an Internet top-level domain which is mainly being used or even available only for a specific country or geographical location.
An interesting fact is that all ccTLD identifiers as two letters long only and therefore all two letter top level domains are country code domains. Some country code domain names prohibit second level domain registrations such as the .org.uk for example but third level domain name registrations are possible too.
That is where the opportunity starts. You can resell domain name registration and transfer services along with WHOIS shield protection and SSL Certificates through the
